Rule 1: Always bet Banker. With a 1.06% house edge, it is the lowest-cost bet. The 5% commission on wins is already factored into this edge.

Rule 2: Never bet Tie. 14.4% house edge. The 8:1 payout is not worth it.

Rule 3: Ignore trends and scorecards. Baccarat tables display 'roads' (trend charts) and many players track streaks. Each hand is statistically independent — past results do not predict future outcomes. These charts are entertainment, not strategy.

A Complete Baccarat Round: Step by Step

Here is exactly what happens during a hand of baccarat:

Step 1 — Place your bet. Choose Banker, Player, or Tie before cards are dealt. Most experienced players choose Banker every hand.

Step 2 — Initial deal. The dealer deals two cards face-up to both the Player hand and the Banker hand. Cards are dealt Player-Banker-Player-Banker.

Step 3 — Check for a Natural. If either hand totals 8 or 9 from the first two cards, that is a Natural. The hand ends immediately with no third card drawn. The higher Natural wins; equal Naturals are a Tie.

Step 4 — Third card if needed. If no Natural, the fixed drawing rules determine whether a third card is drawn. You watch — the dealer handles this automatically.

Step 5 — Compare totals. Whichever hand is closest to 9 wins. Winning Banker bets pay 0.95:1 (5% commission deducted). Winning Player bets pay 1:1.

Example hand:
• Player is dealt 7 and 5 = 12 → counts as 2
• Banker is dealt 6 and 3 = 9 → Natural
• Result: Banker wins automatically. No third card drawn.

Baccarat Variants

• Punto Banco: The most common version in Western casinos. Identical to standard baccarat described above.
• Mini Baccarat: Lower table minimums, faster pace, smaller table. Same rules, same bets. Best for new players.
