How to Play Crazy Eights
Crazy Eights is the classic card-shedding game that inspired Uno — players take turns matching the top discard by rank or suit, with 8s acting as wild cards that let you change the suit at will. First player to empty their hand wins. Fast, fun, and surprisingly strategic.
Objective
Be the first player to get rid of all your cards.
Setup
Players: 2–7
Deck: Standard 52-card deck (use two decks for 5+ players)
Dealing:
- 2 players: 7 cards each
- 3–7 players: 5 cards each
Place remaining cards face-down as the draw pile. Flip the top card face-up to start the discard pile. If an 8 is flipped, shuffle it back and flip again.
How to Play a Turn
On your turn, play one card from your hand onto the discard pile. The card you play must match either:
- The suit of the top discard card (e.g. play any Heart on a Heart), OR
- The rank of the top discard card (e.g. play any 7 on a 7), OR
- Be an 8 (wild — see below)
If you cannot play: Draw one card from the draw pile. If that card is playable, you may play it immediately. If not, your turn ends.
Playing an 8: When you play an 8, you declare the new suit (Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, Spades). The next player must match that suit — or play another 8.

Winning and Scoring
The first player to play all their cards calls out 'Out!' and wins the round.
Scoring: Other players count the value of cards remaining in their hands:

The winner scores the total points held by all opponents. Play to a target (e.g. 200 points). Highest score after multiple rounds wins.
Strategy Tips
Hold your 8s. Eights are the most powerful card — save them for when you're stuck or when playing an 8 puts opponents in a difficult position.
Track what suits opponents play. If a player keeps drawing cards on Hearts, they probably have no Hearts — declare Hearts after playing an 8 to lock them out.
Play high-point cards early. Kings and Queens are worth 10 points each if caught in your hand. Play face cards as soon as they match the discard.
Watch the draw pile. A thin draw pile increases tension — players who haven't played their 8s yet will struggle to draw their way out.

Crazy Eights Countdown: Start with 8 cards and play down to 1, adding a card per round for those who don't win.
Special card powers (common house rules):
- 2: Next player draws 2 cards
- Ace: Skip next player's turn
- Queen: Reverses direction of play
